Install Sxitch with Homebrew (brew install --cask sxitch) or download it directly from the install page. Move Sxitch.app to your Applications folder and open it.

On first launch, macOS asks for permissions. Sxitch needs Accessibility access to read window metadata and switch apps, and Screen Recording permission to enumerate windows via standard macOS APIs. Sxitch never captures or records your screen, and everything runs locally on your Mac.

Tap your trigger hotkey to open the switcher. Type the first letters of the app you want, and once only one valid match remains, Sxitch switches to it instantly. No confirmation key needed. The trigger hotkey is fully customisable in settings.

Type the first letter of any app. Sxitch narrows the tree as you type. If two open apps start with the same letter, for example Mail and Music, pressing M narrows it down and then Ma selects Mail while Mu selects Music.

You can set a key remap so that a specific letter always opens a specific app. For example, pressing F always opens Finder regardless of what else is running. Sequences like fi can always filter to Firefox and Finder. This is what makes the muscle memory approach work.

Sxitch also strips vendor prefixes, so Microsoft Word shows up as Word and matches faster.

Sxitch ships with four views: a default grid arrangement, a clean vertical list, a fast radial layout, and a search view. All views are navigable by keyboard and give you instant access to every open app.

Pick the view that fits your flow in settings. You can also click apps with your mouse, and optionally have the switcher appear at your cursor position.

When an app has more than one window open, selecting the app in Sxitch lets you further pick the exact window you want. This works for apps like Ghostty, Chrome, or any app with multiple windows.

Window picking is a Pro feature. It is included in both the one-time purchase and the subscription.

Enter Hide or Quit mode to clean up your workspace. Hide or quit any app with a single keystroke, straight from the switcher, without hunting for windows.

Hide keeps the app running but removes its windows from view. Quit closes the app entirely. Both are Pro features.

Custom modes let you add a set of apps or shell commands that run from Sxitch with custom icons. Use them to launch app groups, integrate with other apps via shell commands, or trigger anything you can script.

The free plan includes 2 custom modes. Pro unlocks unlimited modes.

Blacklist apps so they never show up in Sxitch. This keeps your switcher UI limited to what you actually switch to.

Overrides let you change how specific apps behave in the switcher, including renames and key remaps. Both are Pro features.

Tired of an app showing up under a name you never use? Rename it in Sxitch and find it by the name you know.

Pin the apps you use most so they are always at the top of the switcher, one keystroke away. Both renames and pinning are Pro features.

Sxitch moves you to the Space where the target app has its windows. To make this seamless, enable the setting in System Settings > Desktop and Dock (scroll to the bottom): "When switching to an application, switch to a Space with open windows for the application".

macOS handles the Space transition automatically after that.

After purchasing through Polar, you receive a license key. Open Sxitch settings and paste the key to activate Pro. Your key is verified once against the licensing server; the app itself runs 100% locally.
